Learning & Teaching

Our curriculum is organised into Six Areas Of Learning and we plan our learning to ensure that every pupil enjoys a broad and balanced range of experiences. We recognise that every learner can excel and that every learner can improve. We believe in developing self-esteem in every pupil so that they can approach their learning with enthusiasm and confidence. Parents and carers play an essential role in supporting their child and the school in nurturing life-long learners. The most important work of the school is teaching and learning. Our school is a community in which everyone is encouraged to learn. We follow the principles of Assessment for Learning.

  • CONDITIONS FOR LEARNING
Assessment that is underpinned by confidence that every child can improve
  • EFFECTIVE PLANNING
Assessment that involves sharing learning goals with pupils and that aims to help pupils to know and recognise the standards they are aiming for
  • EFFECTIVE FEEDBACK
Assessment that provides feedback to enable pupils to recognise their next steps and how to take them
  • SELF-EVALUATION
Assessment that involves pupils in self-evaluation
  • INDIVIDUAL TARGET SETTING
Assessment that involves both teachers and pupils

We plan our learning to include many opportunities for practical activity, learning outside, learning through investigating, learning through play. We encourage learners to ask questions and to reflect on their own learning.
