Festival of light!

Written by  on Monday, 28 November 2016.

Year 1 have started off this half term with a bang! They have been learning about how light is used to celebrate, and have thoroughly enjoyed learning about the tradition of bonfire night and Guy Fawkes.

From acting out the story to creating collages of fireworks, a fun time has certainly been had by all. As part of their forest school learning, the children decided to make their own bonfire night display, by creating a pretend bonfire and constructing firework freeze frames.

They have also been learning about how fireworks are used to celebrate Diwali, and are currently in the process of making their own diya lamps. They are also beginning to investigate how light is used in different religions. We are looking forward to one of our parents coming in to share some Hanukkah activities with us in a few weeks’ time.

There have been some wonderful senses poems linked to bonfire night, and the children have come up with some fantastic ideas ready to write their poetry about light. We cannot wait to hear what they come up with!
