Year 1 Busy Autumn Term

Written by  on Wednesday, 20 December 2017.

This half term in Year 1 the children have been learning about different ‘Festivals of Light’ including Diwali, Hanukah and of course Christmas. They really enjoyed making their clay divas for Diwali and decorated them beautifully. It was also lovely to have a parent come in to tell us about Hanukah.

In November the children learned about why we have Bonfire Night by acting out the story of Guy Fawkes and the Gunpowder plot. They did brilliantly freeze framing to show different parts of the story. Can you guess what is happening in the photographs?

In Science we have been learning about different materials, finding out about their different properties. The children have done some fantastic investigating; this has included testing materials to find out which one is the most waterproof for mending teddy’s umbrella.

It has been wonderful to hear about some of the books that the children have enjoyed reading at home. We have encouraged them to tell us what the book is about and why they would recommend it to others. We look forward to more book sharing sessions next term.
