Can you hear me?

Written by  on Friday, 24 April 2015.

In the second half of the spring term Emerald and Jade classes learnt about sound and hearing.

In science we listened very carefully and identified some strange sounds and decided what made it easier to hear well. We found out how to change the pitch of sound using a ruler! Then we planned and carried out an investigation to see what happens when you move further away from a sound source. We used a drum as the sound source and used our measuring skills to find out the results.

Elliot talked to us about how his hearing aids work and after we researched hearing aids we were surprised to find out that Alexander Graham Bell and Thomas Edison both influenced the invention of the hearing aid. We explored the lives of these two Victorian inventors and tried to find out what made them inventors. We used these inventing skills to design our own telephone for the future.

What was behind your door?

In English our imaginations ran wild as we used our senses to write. We were inspired by the poem ‘The Door’ by Miroslav Holub and included rhymes, alliteration and similes in our own poems!
