Year 2 Christmas Performance 2017

Written by  on Wednesday, 20 December 2017.

In the second half of the autumn term Year 2’s English focus was recounts. We explored newspaper articles and wrote, as eyewitnesses, about how the Great Fire of London started. We stepped into the shoes of Samuel Pepys and wrote a diary entry about our day. Now we have written an article about our Christmas Performance “Magical Christmas Journey”.

On Monday and Tuesday the 11th and 12th of December 2017 Year 2 performed our Christmas play. It was called ‘Magical Christmas Journey’. We had practised for weeks and although we were nervous at first we really enjoyed performing our dress rehearsals to the rest of the school. Then, we were so excited to finally perform to our families and friends. At the beginning of the play the children didn’t have a star for their Christmas tree, but after a long journey; visiting sheep, Wise Men and finally Jesus in the stable, they were given a star to put on top of their tree.

First we put on our amazing costumes. We had children learning the Christmas story and meeting lots of sheep, shepherds and angels along the way and a walking, talking Christmas tree! We went into the hall and got in our positions. The stage was big!! It was like a theatre. It was filled with mums and dads. We remembered all our words and used big voices. Our singing was beautiful! The sheep were amazing and made everyone laugh with their tango dance.

Here are some of our thoughts:

It was great to perform with all of Year 2 – Issy

I looked really smart as one of the Kings – Lennon

I liked having lots of words to say – Swara

It was really fun doing our sheep dance – Fatima

It was great to do a Christmas show because I love Christmas – Aida

We liked everyone watching us – Edward and Tegan

My favourite song was ‘Abaaandoned’ – Jessica

We did great singing – Josh and Frankie B

It was great to perform to Mum and Dad – Sienna

My mum thought it was great – Evie

It was amazing - Ishbel
